The highlight of the night was the awarding of the 2005 Rockhampton Aero Club / Impact Kitchens & Bathrooms Flying Scholarship to the value of $1500.00. Russell Wallace presented the prize to the succsessful student Yarrron van de Want. Yarron was not aware that he was the winner and had to be convinced by his father Frank to attend the evening. Congratulations Yarron!! We hope you enjoy many hours of flying with the Club and now look forward to seeing you at next years flying competitions.
Our guest speaker was retired Senator David MacGibbon who spoke about his experiences as a pilot and then in more depth about how lucky he was to be invited to witness the lauch of the Space Shuttle 'Discovery'. David had a lot of great photos taken of the launch and explained a little about the technical side of the shuttle.
A special guest on the night was Marg Davies, President of the RFACA, who travelled up especially for the evening to present the 2005 Federations Annual Award for services to the Aero Club industry. Our president Graham Dooley was presented the award after being nominated ny members and staff of the Club. Certainly a special award as only 89 have been awarded by RFACA over many years. Congratulations Graham!!
The final official part of the eveneing was the announcment that the Committee had approached Graeme Acton to become Patron of the Rockhampton Aero Club. A position that he willingly accepted. The Club's constitution has always allowed for the appointment but no person has ever been considered for the position. Graeme Acton is not only a strong supporter of the Club and has been for many years but is also one of most important clients. The Committee thanks Graeme for being our Patron and look forward to a long and successful telationship.
One other highlight of the evening
was the presentation of two videos put together by Michael and Nick Keating.
The first was a collage of photos and music featuring members of the Aero
Club. The second was a series of shots taken at Rockhampton Airport and flying
in the local area.
Well done Michael and Nick, your efforts certainly capped off a great night.
