Night VFR (single or multi-engine)

A Night VFR Rating is an exciting and challenging addition to your private or commercial pilots licence. It allows you to fly at night in good weather in an aircraft that is appropriately equipped.

The training for the rating begins in the circuit where you will obtain the skills required to take off and land outside of daylight hours. The final training stage involves two cross country exercises in which you will learn to navigate visually and with the help of radio navigation aids. The entire rating will take approximately 13 flying hours including the flight test.

It can be conducted in either a single engine (generally Cessna 172) or multi-engine (Partenavia) aircraft.

Private IFR Rating (single or multi-engine)

The Rockhampton Aero Club is fully accredited to conduct training for the issue of a Private IFR, Single or Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating.

A PIFR is a worthwhile addition to a Private Pilots Licence, allowing you to fly in weather that would have otherwise kept you on the ground. The PIFR is designed to allow flight through cloud en-route to your destination, as well as an approach at the destination.  This can be an NDB, VOR, DME/GPS Arrival, RNAV or even ILS.  If you are looking for multiple approaches, we recommend you undertake training for the Command Instrument Rating.

The Club primarily operates an IFR certified Cessna 172 as well as our Partenavia which both serve as stable platforms for instrument training.
